Officially 2 years in w/ low carb diet coupled with Jason Fung’s IF: 57 lb weight loss (243 to 186). Palm tree next to scale represents a trip to Miami in Feb. that I’m awarding myself after breaking the 190 barrier (was stuck at 195 for about a year) for some well deserved WARM open water swimming after toiling away in the NC mountain streams( pic 2) for post workout cold water submersions! What I learned: Yes, I stagnated too at 195 for a year after losing the initial 50 lbs, It all came down to embracing the HIIT workouts which for me included running 400 repeats (8x400 which felt absolutely ridiculous and futile at first for a non-runner), interspersed with chin-ups (started w/ 1, now up to 10) dips, and squads with a 12 pound kettlebell. Good zone 5 type of stuff to achieve the after burn (excess post oxygen consumption)where in response to the exercise, fat stores are broken down and free fatty acids are released into the bloodstream. Yep, for me it was embracing the. “Get out of your comfort zone” Zone 5 in order to continue with the weight loss trajectory!
