Home-dried carnivore crisps - #beef #safestashes A few weeks back, I pulled the thin cut New York steak from Costco out of the freezer and had a happy accident. Was going to dehydrate it for jerky, but after 6 hours, it made crunchy, melt in your mouth, crisps. Prep time: 10 minutes Dehydrate time: 6-8 hours, depending on the device, desired crunch, humidity, etc., — Package of thin sliced NY’s — Seasonings - Carefully pull apart the thin strips of raw steak and space on dehydrating trays, making sure to unwrap any curls. Don’t trim the fat. It turns into a glorious crunch. - Season to your liking on the top side (this round I used Redmond’s and pepper … last time was a salted 5-pepper spice blend). - Dehydrate according to your device’s temp setting (this Nesco is 160° F). - Check it starting at 4 hours for your desired crunch factor … less time will make a chewier jerky. - Pull the strips off and store in the refrigerator or freezer. No preservatives except whatever salt is used, so definitely would not recommend it sitting at room temp for multiple days. It could start to grow penicillin. I’m heading to Costco later today and will ask what thickness they slice the steak to (so one can ask their butcher for the same slice). Will also post an oven method for those without a dehydrator. Enjoy!
