I had a recent patient who had a problem with stress-induced binging, this is actually VERY common in my practice and something I also personally have noticed in my behaviors Often I try to explain to people stress induced binging is because the brain, due to the lack of good feelings, is seeking a pick-me-up. This patient had some otherwise strong business interests/accident so I asked the patient as a thought experiment, if someone offered her money in that moment to put down the food, I asked if she would take it? We started with $500, she said yes she would not binge if offered that We negotiated down to $100, she said yes she would not Down to $50, same answer Basically, she said even the pleasure of receiving $5 bill was enough to stop her from binging I asked her how much the brownies she was eating cost her, it was $5. Save yourself the $5 and the bloating, the shame, the guilt If you want something out of your life imagine someone is paying you. Because they are. You deserve it. You are worth it. If you don’t want it - you are going to have to find a way to cope, otherwise relieve stress and find another way to get a “pick-me-up”
