Week 5-1 #NewMe23 1. Low Carb affect on LDL: I’m probably so interested in the ins & outs of elevated LDL because that is an issue that is top on my list of things that I deal with. Recently I read a study that talked about people with an elevated LDL that added some extra carbohydrate and they saw a decrease of their LDL. That’s what I’m working toward. It can be so very stressful to have your doctor only gauge your progress by that one single number and ignore all the progress you’ve made in every other area! 2. Metabolic Health Company Wellness Programs: This topic was so fascinating to me because I spent 38 years working for a public school district that had a high retention rate thus the population for the medical insurance was basically always categorized as being on the older side. Which really meant that we didn’t have enough young people to offset the “older folks” and the generally higher costs that comes with that group. Our insurance costs always felt like they were higher than they should be considering the size of the group we were with. The kind of program Doctor Tro set up with the company described in the study makes so much sense. All companies should WANT to do that not only to cut their employees medical costs but because healthier people make much better employees on all levels. I’m guessing the insurance companies aren’t fans because…well….$$$! Ugh! 3. CGM’s: It seems to me that CGM’s have nothing in the con’s column. They are a piece of equipment that is nothing but helpful. Something as simple as being able to see in real-time what specific foods do to your body’s glucose level enables you to vastly improve your metabolic health. Even for folks that are not pre-diabetic or diabetic it can help you avoid the symptoms that come along with a big glucose spike. With all that being said, why in the world would any doctor tell you NO when you are asking for one! 🤦‍♀️
