#newme23 Week 3 / 5: Gratitude I am eternally grateful for those who have the courage and compassion to share. On Monday, I had a conversation with someone who asked me how I lost 90 lbs. He was expressing that he needed to do something and wanted to know what I did. Without hesitation, I told him that my perspective about my body changed. I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when my perspective changed. I was in the middle of vacuuming the rug in our living room, had finished listening to an interview with Prof. Bikman and then went to an interview with Dr. Fung. It clicked. It happened. That glorious moment of clarity. I had been looking at the stores of energy on my body as the “f” word, and not for what they were … stores of energy. I stopped looking in the mirror being disappointed in what I saw. Instead, I changed my view to realizing I was storing and storing energy for the long winter that never came. My food and drink choices provided instructions for my body and I had been instructing my body to store, store, store. It wasn’t about being lazy or a lack of will power … insulin was doing the job it was designed to do with the instructions I was providing. That day, I stopped using the “f” word and started saying “excess stored energy” instead. When I took the negative “f” word outlook and shoved it in the trash, it was so freeing. My gratitude is for communities like this and those who take the time to educate and share their experiences.
