Morning Check In: This phrase sums up how I live my life: “If it doesn’t support my metabolic health, then it doesn’t belong in my daily routine.” What I love about it is that it describes my daily life, but also leaves room for occasionally flexing out of my routine, and then immediately returning to it once again. A routine to me is not a rule, or a dictate, or something I follow when I’m “good” and “fall off of.” It INCLUDES flexing out of it occasionally. It is what I do most of the time that defines my routine. Yesterday was a good example of flexing out of it! We are visiting my son and his fiance and they wanted to go to a mexican restaurant for dinner. I had enchiladas, I ate some of the chips, I had some tequila and I tried the amazing home made tortillas. I enjoyed it all! And none of it felt like I was “falling off the wagon” because there is no wagon. We will be eating at a Korean BBQ restaurant tonight, and tonight I plan to order as metabolically healthy meal as I can, and it will be a one meal day today. I am always interested in blood sugar patterns. With dinner last night, I didn’t spike overly high, but my blood sugar was up and down, and stayed higher than normal all night long, and is still higher than normal this morning. So for essentially 12 hours it has been higher than normal. That is 12 hours of glycosolation of cells, 12 hours that my body is working to store all that extra glucose! This. This is exactly why my “routine” does NOT include this kind of meal very often!
