Morning Check In: Yesterday a friend helped me see that the amount of fat I was eating was what was likely stalling my weight loss. Even though I know fat is the “lever to pull” when weight loss has stalled, I didn’t really think I ate that much fat! But the olive oil in the salad dressings, the fat in the cashew butter used to make my favorite metabolically healthy desert which I eat every night, the fat in egg yolks and mayo used to make the deviled eggs I often enjoy at lunch, the fat in olives and cheese….I could go on. It doesn’t “feel” like I eat much fat, but I am! What all of this tells me is this: I am eating in a way that keeps blood sugar low and easily (effortlessly) maintains my weight. That is GREAT to know if what I wanted was to maintain my weight! But I want to lose some weight that has crept on over the last couple of years. I am completely used to a low starch lifestyle at this point, keeping blood sugar normalized and I’m really proud of that. My average glucose is less than 100. Now I need to make a new effort to reduce fat intake until I am at a weight that feels more right for me. I need to re-visit my habits! Time to start sciencing myself again by changing up what I am regularly eating and seeing what happens. Today two meals. No sugar/no starch, and new foods that are lower in fat! Going to the gym this morning, plus doing some aerobic housecleaning later today. If it’s sunny, I’ll also take a walk!
