Annual doctor's check in. In late January I'll be checking in for a doctor's visit. He can put his stethoscope on me, look at my throat, feel lymph nodes, etc. I plan to go in with my blood panels showing my HDL, Triglycerides, HbA1c, etc. When he asks me how I've improved all of those biomarkers, lost over 100lbs, reduced my BP to normal since the previous year. I'm going to tell him I went on the Atkins Diet! LOL Which is recommended by the ADA Standards of Care on page 8, then hand him a copy that says: "Reducing overall carbohydrate intake for individuals with diabetes has demonstrated the most evidence for improving glycemia and may be applied in a variety of eating patterns that meet individual needs and preferences… For select adults with type 2 diabetes not meeting glycemic targets or for whom reducing antiglycemic medications is a priority, reducing overall carbohydrate intake with a low- or very-low-carbohydrate eating pattern is a viable option.” They say that eating under 50g of carbohydrates a day is a way to achieve this recommendation through ketosis. Sounds like a ketogenic diet to me 😀 I will tell him that I was on the brink of becoming a full-blown type 2 diabetic because of all of the things related to it metabolically. It will be interesting to see his response 😉
