Family gatherings in Germany usually mean overeating sweets, hearty snacks, probably two rounds of the main course, and of course a dessert to top it all. This time, I planned ahead: - Came in still fasting for 20 hours, so skipping “coffee & cake time” was easy. - Mom confirmed she would make Leberkäse considering my diet (literally translates into "liver cheese" but it actually is a traditional German meatloaf of pork, beef, and bacon). - Stuck to water, skipped wine and schnapps. - Avoided potato salad and dessert, enjoyed peppers with cream cheese instead. Yes, I overdid nuts and cheese, but compared to my old habits, this was a huge win. Not perfect... absolutely acceptable!
