Today marks 3 full months since I switched to VLCD. It is nice to continue putting some distance between when I started and now. I have personally found that this way of eating suits me well. My hunger is under control, my cravings for sweets is essentially gone. My satiety level when I do eat is fantastic. I'm a numbers guy. So, I've been tracking and mapping my progress. I've shared several NSV here along the way without getting into actual numbers much. For me, I'm content to eat most of the same foods everyday. Low-carb, higher fat and protein. That consistency is easy for me to track on a simple app connected to my Fitbit watch. Translating that daily, weekly, and monthly data is a breeze. That discipline (for now) gives me a more clear perspective the farther along I go, a bird's-eye view as it were. Although I don't shoot for calorie restrictions, it happens because if I'm not hungry, I don't eat. I have plenty of fat for my body to use as fuel in ketosis, or via glycogenolysis. Practicing IMF, especially 18/6, has been very helpful in this regard. I'm sure I'm not following the ketogenic prescription to a tee. I'll admit, sometimes trying to hit the macros 🎯 is kind of dizzying. I do track actual carb intake, not carbs minus fiber. I don't use a CGM or track whether or not I'm in ketosis 24 hrs a day My 3 month averages are: Carbohydrates <30g Fat 82g Protein 93g Although weight-loss is obviously part of what I'm accomplishing, it is not the primary emphasis. My metabolic health is most important to me, which is why I started this journey. I want to avoid developing Type2 diabetes and the host of other related issues that arise from a high-carbohydrate out of control diet. As I went into this, my conviction was that as long as I stick to a low carb emphasis, because I am obese, the weight would naturally start coming off. I have lost 62lbs in 3 months... I would like to lose another 100lbs, which at this point seems totally doable and not nearly as daunting as I would have expected it to be. To be honest, the numbers I am really looking forward to are later this week, which will be from my lab results. Which include, my HbA1c, Quest Diagnostics proprietary insulin resistance results and my basic lipid panel. Since I already have my Baseline from January 2024, which is the last time I had blood drawn, I believe the results coming later this week will give me a real clear perspective of how effective this way of eating is! Thanks for reading my long post πŸ˜‰
