I went to a wonderful outdoor craft fair this weekend, my first public outing since the pandemic started! Had a wonderful time, got a LOT of walking in, it was so nice to be out among people again. There were a lot of food booths, too, and I was thrilled to find locally-made diet root beer as a treat. I wasn't really hungry, but out of curiosity, went to a few food booths to see if they had no-sugar options. Jerky booth: "do you have any without sugar?" "No, you have to have sugar to get the seasonings to stick." (Really? There are some other jerky makers who figure it out!) Seasonings booth: "do you have any without sugar?" "uhhhh... (looking and looking)... These 2 don't have sugar, but the others only have a little!" (I bought the 2. I will likely never use them but wanted to make a point.) Almonds booth: "do you have any flavors without sugar?" "Uhhh... no, but these have honey instead of sugar!" (No thanks.) Pecans booth: "do you have any flavors without sugar?" "Uh, no." (Blank stare. That one was entertaining.) Salsa booth: "do you have any flavors without sugar?" "Uhhhh....uhhhhhhhh... (looking around) ...no..." (Like he was thinking "how would that even work?!?!") I probably could've gotten a burger without a bun or a hot dog without a bun or something similar if I'd been hungry, but I thought it was interesting that none of these food vendors had thought to have a no-sugar option.
