Excited about our food addiction course Here are some thoughts until then… If you want to tackle your weight or diet-related disease, you need to pick a side. 1. One path: Accept that you are choosing food as a psychoactive substance and a source of pleasure. Own it. Radically accept this choice without guilt or shame, and stop punishing yourself for it. If you take this path, fully embrace it—savor every bite, eat slowly, actually taste your food, and enjoy it. If this is your choice, then let it be a true choice, free of internal conflict. 2. The other path: Acknowledge that your identity is shifting and that your relationship with food needs to change. If you recognize that certain foods are addictive and damaging, then commit—either abstain or harm-reduce with intention. If this is your path, you must fully own it. The danger is the middle ground. If you refuse to accept your choices, if you keep eating addictively but tell yourself you shouldn’t, you create psychological turmoil. You get no real enjoyment from food, yet you also don’t commit to real change. The guilt and self-loathing drive the very behavior you wish to escape, fueling a vicious cycle. If you cannot radically forgive yourself and accept your decisions, you are worsening your situation. True peace comes from either full acceptance or full commitment to change—anything in between is self-imposed suffering. You cannot take the red pill and pretend that everything is fine when you know it isn’t. You cannot return to ignorance without spiritual/internal strife. If you try to ignore this truth, you will likely face emotional and spiritual trauma. You know you want to change. You know the status quo is unacceptable, yet you keep doing the same thing with your diet, expecting different results. Do you truly want to change? Can you radically forgo a psychoactive substance that your brain has been conditioned to believe it needs to survive? Abstinence from your hooked poison is the path to breaking free. If you can’t restrict it, replace it with something that won’t destroy you.
