The Green Mile: My Version of the Iditarod Eight years ago this month, I began my journey to fix my health. I was broken, metabolically unhealthy, obese, on multiple medications for various conditions, lyme disease sufferer, and a cancer survivor. A course correction was needed. We emptied our kitchen shelves and pantry, getting rid of the common unhealthy foods. Eliminating carbohydrates and sugar. Choosing to eat whole foods, healthy fats, and practicing time restricted eating. My fitness routine began alone in my basement, walking on a treadmill and using a rebounder, aka mini-trampoline. Months after beginning to lose weight, I decided to leave the confines of my basement. My self-esteem improved, and I was brave enough to set foot in a planet fitness among the general population. Today, I did sled work on the Green Mile, which I hadn't done in a while. I couldn’t help thinking about the incredible teams out there in the 2025 998 mile Iditarod that began on March 3rd of this year, pushing through ice, wind, and miles of unforgiving terrain No comparison—those athletes (both human and canine) are in a league of their own. But we all have our own version of the race. Our own terrain to conquer. The weighted vest, the core work, the ring exercises, sprints, and rowing—every step is part of the journey. Some days, the sled doesn’t get pulled, but the work still gets done. The lesson? Keep moving forward. Whether it’s through snow-covered trails or the sweat-soaked path of self-discipline, what matters is the effort, the mindset, and the commitment to the grind. Keep running your race. Keep showing up. The trail is yours to own. #GreenMile #KeepPushing #MyIditarod
