Obesity behaves more like a social virus than a traditional chronic disease. An analysis published in The New England Journal of Medicine shows that individuals with obesity influence others around them, leading to the spread of obesity within social networks. Over time, clusters of obesity grow while clusters of healthier individuals shrink. In this 3-D model, those shrinking clusters likely represent spaces like CrossFit gyms, exceptional metabolic health clinics, or health-conscious families and communities. In our modern food environment, obesity spreads almost like a contagious illness. It’s time to disrupt this cycle and reverse the trend.
