Here’s my speech from the DC rally - The CDC recommends that people with diabetes get 50% of their calories from carbohydrates. Meanwhile, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that children with obesity should not be denied access to bariatric surgery or hormone injections. Yet, when it comes to lowering carbohydrates in adolescents, they mandate an extensive regimen of 20 lab tests and imaging studies. I stand before you today not just as a physician, but as someone who has personally lived through the devastating consequences of a broken medical system… a system that has failed me, failed my family, and continues to fail millions of people every single day. It’s time to face the facts: we are in the midst of a metabolic health crisis, and the very institutions that claim to protect our health are part of the problem. At the age of eight, I was already on the path to obesity. By the time I became a young adult, I was burdened not just by my own weight, but by a medical system that offered nothing but empty advice. I watched as my family succumbed to diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. We went to Weight Watchers together, desperately seeking hope, while the real underlying issues were ignored. I ate the same school lunches full of processed junk and snacked on “convenient” and supposedly “healthy” foods like Lunchables. I’ll never forget sitting in a cramped doctor’s office after waiting for hours… only to be placed on a scale and told that I was just like my family—fat. The advice I received? “Learn about calories.” But calories weren’t my issue. The real problem was understanding my hunger and the fact that I had been deprived of proper nutrition from day one. The weight piled on until I became a 350-pound physician. My wake-up call didn’t come from the medical community, but from my own wife. She asked me to dig deep and find the solution, as I had done for everything else in medicine. So, I embarked on a ten-year mission to heal. I read 300 diet books by experts like Dr. Lustig, Dr. Teicholz, and Dr. Westman, and I pored over thousands of original research papers, trying to make sense of the USDA guidelines and the absurd recommendations from our so-called medical authorities. What did I discover? I found that the advice to eat more starches, grains, and carbohydrates was a complete lie… not supported by the literature, not grounded in reality. These were outright lies. At that point, I had never even cooked a steak in my life. I had no vested interest. I just wanted to heal… and I did. I lost 150 pounds, and I’ve kept it off for the last ten years with little effort. Not because of the nonsense in our dietary guidelines, but because I finally understood what true nutrition looks like. Our experts have failed us. They continue to fail us. And it’s not just a failure of knowledge… it’s a failure of integrity. I didn’t watch my family suffer only to sell out to pharma, supplement companies, or some veggie greens CEO. I’ve dedicated my life to exposing this failure. I’ve published ten papers. I’ve trained medical students, doctors, and coaches to understand the truth about metabolic health. Seven years ago, I founded a nationwide telemedicine practice that has helped over 2,000 people lose nearly 100,000 pounds. Today, we partner with large companies to provide metabolic health services free to their employees. And it’s working. Manufacturing workers, truckers, fencing contractors, and lumber yard workers are all achieving incredible results… not because of a magic pill, but because we’re giving them the truth about metabolic health. I’m honored to be here today, but let me be clear: honor alone won’t solve this problem. We need action. That’s why I serve on the board of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners… to ensure the next generation of doctors doesn’t remain as blind as mine was. My personal mission, and the mission of my medical practice, is simple: to end metabolic disease. I am honored to work with all of you, and with the amazing people speaking here today, to inspire change… both grassroots and organizational. Metabolic health is a birthright.
