Day 11 of journaling every day! Obviously I love goal setting and planning, but sometimes I get bogged down in the problem solving and forget that it is supposed to be fun. Earlier this year, I saw a post by tumblr user songofsaraneth that really resonated with me: every time i ask people if they do any new years resolutions its all ooooo i dont like making them bc i fail or ohhhhh no i couldnt keep up wiht that and then when they ask me and i tell them about Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it) theyre like hang on i forgot you can make Fun Ones i want a fun one. - songofsaraneth I think I’m going to go on fruit and veggie adventures this year where I try all the fruits and veggies I’ve never encountered before and learn about them. It reminded me of this post last year from Activist and Writer Emily Ladau. She defines FUN Goals as Flexible - Life happens, things change, goals shift. Uplifting - Bettering myself isn’t a punishment. Numberless - Life won’t be radically different if I read 29 books this year instead of 30. Lots of people responded to both posts and shared some of their fun goals. Here are some of the ones I found particularly inspiring or funny: - Make your home cozier - Do a sneeze count - Anytime you feel the impulse to compliment someone, actually do it - Pick a color to wear more often - Wink more - Wear more silly little outfits - Wear more hats - Be nice to bugs Another one I did last year was to take a picture of the lake almost every day when I walked my dog Felix past it. I've included some photos from that below. Take 5-15 minutes and write about What are your FUN goals? I want to practice more figure drawing. I want to read more books. I want to get back to keeping a list of every book, tv series, or movie that anyone recommends to me and work my way thru the list. I want to make a bunch of fun ice shapes and with different fruit or flowers in it and make cute little drinks for myself every day. I want to use my gurgle pot more. Now that I live very near a college campus, I want to go to lots of little talks and lunchtime concerts, and other events. I want to drink more tea. I want to try cooking more things out of cookbooks. I want to dance more. I want to make music with friends. I want to bake lots of little things (hard with the low carb, but I guess I want to learn how to bake lots of low carb cookies and cakes and bread). I want to go to estate sales this year. For me goal setting is about getting myself closer to my ideal life and my ideal life does not include a lot of guilt and shame for goals that I don't meet exactly the way I wanted to or intended to. #timetosoar
